The Litter Action Group was set up in 2019 with a view to tackling the litter issues and dumping in the Crumlin and surrounding areas. The initial members of the group were Crumlin Community Cleanup, Tidy Drimnagh, Sundrive Residents, Ravensdale Environmental Group, Rutland Grove Residents Association, Crumlin Road Residents Association,, Lower Crumlin and LOKRA.
The aim of the group was advocating for improved litter and waste management and tackling issues in the area. We arranged a meeting with the local councillors and Dublin City Council staff. We now have regular meeting to keep track of the progress and issues as they arise.
To date some of the successes have been:
- Audit and Gap Analysis of all bins in the area.
- Placement of 42 bins in the area
- Tackled 25 litter hotspots
- Submission of 12 page document to the DCC Litter Management Plan.
- Processed 350 litter reports from members of the public
- Addition of QR Codes to the bins in the area
- Repair of broken/damaged bins
- Graphical enhance bottle bank bins on Parnell Road
- Audit of utility boxes in the area
- Redistribution of Sundrive Recycling Bins
- Installation of storage container for cleanup equipment
- Addition of dog fouling signs on footpaths
- 50 tonnes of household equipment removed for Halloween
- Deep cleaning of laneways and high footfall locations
- Cleaning and improving of utility boxes
- Advocated for the addition of benches and tables in parks
- Addition of food waste dumping signage to Mount Argus and
- Delivery of 1000 food waste leaflets warning of dangers
- Entered Pride of Place and Tidy Towns
- Delivery of Halloween leaflets to all households
- Created Circular Economy campaign
- Addition of mural on Windmill Road
- Relocation of roadside storage containers
- Advocating for more regular street sweeping
